Joe & the perfect day

"The perfect day would be one in which the feeling of well being and gratitude just bubbles up frequently. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing but if that wave comes more frequently than not, that’s a good day."

"I think it’s nice when someone goes out of the way for you and does something that you didn’t know you needed. And they can see that. Making coffee for them in the morning or bringing them a sandwich...it’s never really a big gesture ever. That doesn’t exist I don’t think."

"I had this one teacher in school who taught this introductory course in Zen Buddhism. And I would hang out with him after class for awhile and we’d listen to the radio and he’d always tell me, ‘You're going to have to learn how to eat nails.'"

"When I wake up regularly at the same time every morning and I watch the light hit this table in whatever manner. If I can recognize that with some sort of gratitude that gives me hope. When I stop doing that I’ve lost all hope."

"I think if you really want to succeed at something you sort of have to be obsessed with it in a way and deal with that obsession. I really think it’s just having a routine and clocking in for yourself. No one else is going to do it."
